Dr. Delphina JOYce Avila did not develop the JOY Mindset® System from a whiteboard. She developed it from the intersection of her own lived experience and leadership — navigating cultural identity, professional achievement, and a cancer diagnosis that forced her to ask a question most high-achievers avoid: what is all of this actually for?
As a cancer survivor, she discovered what she now teaches — that resilience is not a trait you either have or don’t. It is cultivated. It is a choice. A mindset. A daily practice. Her encounter with mortality became the catalyst for developing the resilience frameworks that now sit at the core of the JOY Mindset® System.

Her path as a Latina educator and equity advocate shaped a second dimension of the framework — cultural authenticity as a leadership asset, not a liability. She writes and teaches to help others reclaim their voice through identity clarity, honor their journey especially through adversity, and lead with authenticity in service of equity, community, and purpose.
